COVID 19: cases jump 16000 mark, deaths 519, 2301 cured

New Delhi, Apr 19: The Novel Coronavirus cases in the country rose to 16,116 on Sunday evening after a spike of more than 1,300 cases in the past 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry data.

With 31 covid deaths reported during the past 24 hours, the toll is now 519, as per government data. Active COVID cases in the country at present stand at 13295 after 321 fresh active cases were added since morning.

There is an improvement in the number of cured and discharged cases with the figure for now resting at 2301. Cases in the worst COVID hit-state in the country- Maharashtra have again spiked with the number now resting at 3,651 with ten fresh deaths since Saturday evening taking the total to 211 casualties, followed by the national capital. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have witnessed rapid spike in the cases in the last 24 hours with numbers shooting to 1604 and 1407.

While number of casualties in these two states are now 58 in Gujarat and 70 in MP. Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have also witnessed a spike in positive Coronavirus cases, with figures now standing at 1,372 and 1,351, respectively. In the past two days, the number of positive cases has rapidly increased in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, other than Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, cases have also spiked in Uttar Pradesh where the number was now above 1000 cases, standing at 1084 with 17 deaths. (UNI)
