Priyanka concerned over alleged shortage of testing kits in UP

Lucknow, Apr 14: After stressing to immediately increase testing for COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Tuesday again showed her concern over shortage of testing kits in the State. Mrs Vadra, who is incharge of Party affairs here in Uttar Pradesh, also stated that reports of five people have turned out to be positive for the coronavirus after the death of the patient.

Vadra took to Twitter on Tuesday to write: "I wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and requested to increase the testing. Reports of five people have come positive for coronavirus after the death of patient in UP. Testing system is still poor. Make the testing system rapid and orderly. Maximum testing can only give us correct picture."

It may be mentioned that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on April 10 had written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urging him to increase the capacity of testing and treatment of coronavirus in the state. Congress leader, in the letter, had said that the menace of coronavirus is spread across the country, including Uttar Pradesh and had stressed the need for strict action and increasing medical facilities in combating the disease. Two days later, she again reminded the government on shortage of checking kits. Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh Congress celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar in a simple manner distributing food grains and safety kits to the safai karamcharis, poors and dalits here on Tuesday.

Attacking Bharatiya Janata Party government both in the centre and here in UP, State Congress president, Ajay Kumar `Lallu’ said that the down trodden section of the society are the worst sufferers of the lock down, as the government failed to cater them food and other basic needs for survival. He welcomed lock down extension but said that once again the prime minister not disclosed any plan about how to support the daily wagers, poor and dalits, who were now left with no money and food for their survival.

Lallu, to mark Ambedkar’s jayant also visited safai karamcharis locality near Mohan Mekin’s factory in Daliganj and distributed safety kits which included sanitisers, masks etc. Later they visited the houses of the poor and dalits and distributed food grain packets sent to Lucknow by Priyanka Gandhi for distribution on occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti on Tuesday. It may be mentioned that Vadra on Monday sent truck loaded with food grains which can be distributed to the needy people in the state capital on occasion of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Jayanti on Tuesday.
