In his address to the nation, the Prime Minister spelled out the road ahead in tackling the Covid-19 situation prevailing in and extended lockdown till May 3 the country.
He outlined the decision on lockdown given the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country and also spelled out a seven points list that he said needs to be taken care of till the pandemic lasts.
Even before Mr. Modi’s speech, several states including Telangana, Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal have extended the lockdown till April 30 as the number of Covid-19 infected climbed to 10,363 and the death has touched 339 and the World Health Organisation (WHO) calling the coronavirus disease, which has flu like symptoms, 10 times more deadly than swine flu, also called H1N1, which caused a global pandemic in 2009.
Congress leaders, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, and Mr. P Chidambaram have backed the Prime Minister's decision to extend the lockdown.

But he should have also announced serious relief for those who cannot make ends meet. MNREGA payments, JanDhan accounts, GST dues to states,&aid to sweeten the pill,' Dr. Tharoor tweeted while Mr. Chidambaram said, 'We reciprocate the PM’s New Year greetings. We understand the compulsion for extending the lockdown. We support the decision.'
