New Delhi, Apr 8 : A Group of Ministers under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday recommended measures to enhance the testing facilities for COVID-19. While reviewing the situation arising out of this deadly Coronavirus, the GoM observed that places where the public have a tendency to gather in large numbers such as religious centres should be closely monitored and any such gatherings prevented.
The panel suggested for increased monitoring through drones and other surveillance methods to check such congregations. They also expressed satisfaction over the measures put in place to provide shelter and food to migrant workers while the decision that allowed agricultural operations during the current harvest season was hailed.
Expressing gratitude to thousands of health professionals, security personnel and countless others involved in ensuring smooth operation of essential services and supply chain of food, medicines, the empowered group expressed satisfaction after they were briefed that supply of essential goods was continuing smoothly and essential commodities were available in sufficient quantities and no shortages were reported from anywhere in the country. This is the fourth meeting of the GoM on COVID-19 since March 25.
Inputs, suggestions and feedback from the discussions held at these meetings are conveyed to the Prime Minister by the Defence Minister. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Parliament Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi along with other members of this GoM were present at the meeting.
