New Delhi, Mar 25: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision of announcing a 21-day national lockdown, in an attempt to contain the rapid spread of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

''Historical decision by PM @narendramodi to save every Indian citizen and the country from #Coronavirus. This 21 days lockdown from midnight today will help prevent #Covid19 from spreading. #IndiaFightsCorona #StayHome #StayHomeIndia #StayAtHome,'' Mr Javadekar said in a tweet.

Making a strong pitch for social distancing as the only way to tackle the threat of the Novel Coronavirus in the country, Mr Modi on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown of the entire country from midnight on Tuesday night.

Hailing the 'Janta Curfew' as an extremely successful exercise of self-isolation, which was carried out on March 22 , Mr Modi, in his second televised address to the nation, said, ''The nation is going to take a very important decision. Starting midnight, the whole country will be under complete lockdown, to save the citizens from the deadly virus. The lockdown will continue for 21 days.'' UNI
