New Delhi, Mar 23: The government on Monday decided to cease all domestic flight operations under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) from midnight of March 24 till midnight of March 31 following coronavirus or COVID 19 outbreak in the country.
In a notification issued on March 23, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the operation of all scheduled domestic flights by any aircraft operator holding air operator certificate issued by DGCA shall cease with effect from 2359 hrs March 24 Such operators shall plan their operations in such a way that their flights land at the destination latest by 2359 hrs on March 24.
The government move comes after the large movement of persons within the country by flights carrying a large number of persons together will aid and assist the spread of the above virus within country and for prevention of further spread of the epidemic disease,such movement of people must be restricted.
Many state governments had requested the Centre for the suspension of domestic flight operations in view of COVIS 19 outbreak.
However, the restrictions shall not apply to aircraft, helicopter belonging to or being operated on behalf of state or UT governments and all airports shall continue to function for handling the permitted flight operations.
The restriction of operation shall remain in force till 2359 hrs on March 31 2020.
The Centre has already restricted the operation of international fights coming to India. (UNI)
