Covid19: Janata curfew begins in India

Janta Curfew, a self-imposed curfew by people, are being observed by people across India by shutting them away from their daily works and sitting at home.

In his address to the nation, PM Modi called for Janta Curfew on March 22 and urged people to stay at home. The Janta Curfew will be observed between 7 am to 9 pm. With almost all Chief Ministers of the States also hailing Modi’s self-imposed Janta Curfew, it was predicted that India will go to a standstill on Sunday, March 22. All big cities across India have already been placed under lockdown since Saturday night. Indian Railways has cancelled all passenger trains till 10pm today in wake of Janta Curfew. All the shops, malls, markets remained closed. Roadside shops and eateries across India remained closed.

Chief secretaries of all states have been asked to ensure that local bodies, fire services, police and civil defence blow sirens or ring bells on Sunday evening to express gratitude towards those involved in tackling coronavirus.

Ride hailing companies Ola and Uber will operate limited cabs during the Janata' curfew hours for essential travels. Jharkhand government requests Railways to put a ban on trains entering from other states. The business capital of India, Mumbai city will keep people providing essential services away from taking part in Janta Curfew. Major markets viz. Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara under lockdown till March 25

Coronavirus has infected more than 3 lakh people and killed more than 12,700 across the world. Meanwhile, India has reported four deaths and 315 cases so far.
