New Delhi, Mar 21 : The government on Saturday capped the price of essential consumables such as masks and sanitisers that are essential for fight against the COVID- 19. The two-ply masks are not to be sold for more than Rs 8 per piece, three-ply mask at Rs 10 and alcohol-based sanitisers to be priced at Rs 100 for a 200 ml pack. The government has also issued guidelines in view to ramp up the sanitiser production and the overall distribution, production and supply of the essential consumables in the current situation.
Extraordinary measures have been taken in view of the extraordinary circumstances, a Health Ministry official said. The states have been asked to let the deodorant manufacturers to produce sanitisers and also let the distilleries do the same if possible so that there can be increased production of the alcohol based sanitisers that help in fighting the COVID 19, the Health ministry official said while briefing the press on Saturday.
The central and the state governments are monitoring production, retail and supply of the essential goods such as sanitisers, masks and others and the government is also coordinating with the delivery services that function online to make the goods reach out to the people especially the elderly.
