New Delhi, Mar 20 : The Opposition on Friday created an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over the reference to Shaheen Bagh by BJP member G V L Narasimha Rao during a discussion on the private members resolution on 'Economy and Unemployment,' moved by Binoy Viswam of CPI.

Participating in the discussion on the resolution, which urged the House to develop an unemployment guarantee Act, Rao suddenly made a reference to Shaheen Bagh. Immediately, Manoj Jha of RJD stood up to protest over what he termed as an unnecessary reference to Shaheen Bagh. Amid the uproar by the RJD member, the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries stood up to defend his party colleague.

Soon after, members of various Opposition parties, including Jairam Ramesh, BK Hariprasad and Ambika Soni of Congress, Sanjay Singh of Aam Aadmi Party and others entered the well of the House and started shouting slogans against the government.

On this, acting Vice-Chairman M V Rajeev Gowda said he would look into the records and anything that is found objectionable, would be expunged. However, members of the Opposition continued with their uproar and shouted slogans against the government. As the uproar continued, the Chair adjourned the House for the day. (UNI)
