New Delhi, Mar 19 : Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Nitin Gadkari on Thursday admitted in the Rajya Sabha that small and medium units had been affected due to downturn in the global economy, impact of Novel Coronavirus and even partially due to Demonetisation and GST implementation, but said that the units were recovering, as both the Demonetisation and GST, were a temporary phase.
Replying to the debate on the working of the MSME Ministry in the Rajya Sabha, Gadkari outlined the Modi Government's aim to give aid to 11 crore units, as it wanted production and jobs. Gadkari, also the Minister for Road, Transport and Highways of India and Shipping, said it was the Government's priority to uplift the poor and marginalised sections.
Earlier, Jairam Ramesh of Congress, decrying the twin effects of demonetisation and GST implementation, demanded to know what the Government was doing to overcome the adverse effect, as was seen in the MSME clusters in 'Jalandhar, Tirupur, Aligarh, Agra and Howrah'.(UNI)
