Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived at the BJP Headquarters in Delhi to attend a top-level chief election committee (CEC) meeting to decide the candidates for Rajya Sabha.
But in the wake of the resignation of senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, Madhya Pradesh politics may also figure in the CEC meeting. Moreover, the name of Jyotiraditya Scindia will also come in the BJP candidates’ list for Rajya Sabha.
Top leaders include Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda are also there in the BJP Headquarters as part of CEC meeting. The meeting will discuss the Madhya Pradesh situation in detail as Congress-led KamalNath cabinet is in a precarious position. Already, 22 Congress MLAs have tendered resignation which has the potential to topple Kamalnath government in Madhya Pradesh as the strength of Congress government will go down to 95 in the 228 member assembly. The current strength in the assembly as follows:
Of the 228 MLAs:
Congress has: 114 MLAs
BJP has: 109 MLAs
BSP has: 2 MLAs
Samajwadi Party has: 1 MLA
Independents have: 4 MLAs
If 22 MLAs switch over to BJP, there will be no way for Kamalnath to continue in power.
Meanwhile, Jyotiraditya Scindia is set to join the BJP later in the evening on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, Scindia had filed for his resignation from the Indian National Congress after meeting Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
