New Delhi, Mar 5: A Delhi Court on Thursday issued fresh death warrants of March 20 at 5.30 am for execution of all four convicts in the brutal gangrape and murder case of a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern.
The girl, who came to be known as Nirbhaya, was gangraped and savagely assaulted in a moving bus in the South Delhi area on December 16, 2012. She died a fortnight later in a Singapore hospital.
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana had, on February 17, third time issued fresh death warrants of March 3 at 6am for the execution of the convicts - Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Pawan Kumar Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma (26) and Akshay Singh (31) and later on March 2, deferred the execution till further orders, as the mercy petition of one of the convicts Pawan was pending before the President.
After the President rejected the mercy plea filed on behalf of Pawan, the Government Counsel submitted another plea asking the court to issue new death warrants in the matter. The court, after hearing the submissions on March 4, issued notice to the convicted and fixed for hearing on Thursday. Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana, on Thursday, after hearing the submissions, issued fresh death warrants against the convicted for execution on March 20. (UNI)
