New Delhi, Mar 2: Stating that the first of Budget session was purposeful with 96 per cent productivity, Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on Monday expressed hope that the second part of Budget Session would prove to be even more meaningful.
'We are meeting after a three-week recess, meant for the 24 Department Related Standing Committees (DRSCs) to consider Demands for Grants of all the Ministries, as proposed in the Budget presented to Parliament during the first part of this session, which concluded on the 11th of last month.
'I am sure various Committees would have gone about this task with all the seriousness that was required and would present informed reports to Parliament for further consideration by the Government,' the Chairman said in his opening remark.
Of the 24 DRSCs, eight are with the Rajya Sabha and the remaining 16 with the Lok Sabha.
'I would like to highlight that since the introduction of DRSCs in 1993, substantial work of Parliament is being transacted by these Committees, in which almost all the parties and groups are represented.
'These Committees function in a non-partisan manner and mostly submit unanimous reports on various important issues for further consideration of Parliament and the Government, as the case may be,' Mr Naidu said. (UNI)
