New Delhi, Mar 3 : The Election Commission on Tuesday announced bypoll to a vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Haryana following resignation of BJP leader Birender Singh from the house.
According to the Commission, the notification will be issued on March 6 and the last date for filing nominations will be March 13. Last date for withdrawal will be on March 18 and polling will be held on March 26 and counting of votes will take place the same day.
Mr Singh, a former Union Minister, resigned from his Rajya Sabha membership on January 20. His membership was due to end on August 1, 2022. The Haryana leader's resignation came after his son Brijendra Singh got elected to Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket from Hisar constituency. Earlier, the Commission had announced polls to 55 Rajya Sabha seats from 17 states falling vacant in April, which will be held on March 26. (UNI)
