New Delhi, Feb 22 : Describing as 'petty politics,' the government's decision to drop names of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from the school event where Melania Trump is scheduled to visit, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said that such acts are 'unhealthy for our democracy'.
"This kind of petty politics in selectively sending invitations for official occasions was introduced by the Modi government and is unhealthy for our democracy", Mr Tharoor tweeted moments after media reported that the Delhi Chief Minister's and Deputy Chief Minister's names were droped. Mr Tharoor further said that "exclusion of the opposition from Rashtrapati Bhavan banquets and Prime Ministerial receptions may seem trivial, but it undermines India."
According to reports the names of Mr Kejriwal and Mr Sisodia are not mentioned in the school event. Sources had earlier claimed that the first Lady of the US will be accompanied by Mr Kejriwal and Mr Sisodia on February 25 during their visit to a government school in South Delhi.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party alleged that BJP-led Union government is behind the change of the schedule. AAP National Executive Member Preeti Sharma Menon tweeted, "There is no match for the pettiness of Narendra Modi. You may not invite Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia but their work speaks for them" (sic). The First lady of the US is scheduled to take part in the 'happiness curriculum' class introduced by the Arvind Kejriwal-led government during her visit to New Delhi on February 25. (UNI)
