DCW chief welcomes SC ruling to allow women Permanent Commission in Army

New Delhi, Feb 17 : Welcoming the Supreme Court ruling in which the Apex Court directed the Centre to ensure that women officers got Permanent Commission in the Army, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal on Monday said now women too will get Permanent Commission on par with male officers in the Army and if the women decide to win every battle then there will be no obstacle for her.

Earlier in the day, in a historic verdict, the Supreme court, while hearing the Centre's appeal against the Delhi High Court direction, said that the permanent commission will apply to all women officers in the Army in service, irrespective of their years of service. 'Now, like male officers, women too will get permanent commission in the Army. We have won the fight which was on for the last ten years for our rights. The Supreme Court asked the government to change the mindset. Heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Court," DCW Chief tweeted.

"If the women decide to win every battle, then no one can stop them," she added. While hearing the matter, the top Court said, "The Centre's arguments citing physiological limitations and social norms to deny opportunity to women officers is unacceptable and violates equality." "Women officers have performed exceptionally well and brought laurels, it added.

The bench, consistingof Justices DY Chandrachud and Ajay Rastogi, allowed women Army officers to be given command positions on par with male officers. (UNI)
