Sedition cases: SC defers petition for a week

Agency News

New Delhi, Feb 10 : The Supreme Court on Monday deferred hearing of a petition for a week, that sought its direction to Delhi government to lay guidelines on issuance of sanction of Prosecution with respect to sedition cases.

A bench of the Apex Court, headed by CJI S A Bobde, deferred the petition for a week, without giving any exact date to hear the matter in the case. The petitioner, Dr N K Garg, had moved the Apex Court, seeking its direction to Delhi government to lay guidelines on issuance of sanction of Prosecution with respect to sedition cases.

Dr Garg had highlighted certain cases, including that of former JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru) student's leader, Kanhaiya Kumar and others, in which the Delhi government had not given sanction of Prosecution in the case. The petitioner, Dr Garg, had moved the Apex Court and challenged the order of the Delhi High Court, which disposed off his petition. (UNI)
