New Delhi, Feb 10 : The Samajwadi Party on Monday expressed concern on inadequate provision in the budget for the Health and Education sectors. Participating in a discussion on General Budget for 2020-21 in the Rajya Sabha, Ravi Prakash Verma of SP said the Budget has made inadequate provision for Health, Education and the poor.
Pointing out that one per cent population of the country is in possession of 73 per cent wealth of the nation, Verma said this section of people should be heavily taxed and the money that comes from the tax receipts can be used for the welfare of poor. He said nothing had been done in the Budget for the welfare of the youth.
Referring to the spread of Novel Coronavirus, he said there should be provision in the country to deal with such diseases. An allocation of 2.3 per cent of GDP has been made for the Health sector in the budget, whereas it should have been five per cent. Prashant Nanda of BJD said that more provision should have been made in the budget for reviving the rural economy. Stressing the need for making more allocation for MGNREGA, he said the government talks of doubling the farmers' income, which cannot be made through traditional methods. (UNI)
