New Delhi, Feb 9: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested an active cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) Masasosang Ao and got his police custody from the NIA special court, New Delhi for further investigation, an official statement said here on Saturday.
This case pertains to terror funding of NSCN (IM) in which seizure of Rs 72 lakh in cash was made on December 7 last year from Alemla Jamir at Domestic Airport, New Delhi. Ms Jamir is wife Phungthing Shimrang who is an ex-army chief of Naga National Army and an executive member of Steering Committee of NSCN (IM).
During investigation, it was revealed that this money was part of a bigger criminal conspiracy relating to channelizing of the extorted levy amount collected from the businessmen, contractors of Nagaland and neighbouring states and this amount is being used for furtherance of terror activities of NSCN (IM). After getting lead from the interrogation of Ms Jamir, the federal terror probe agency further conducted searches and seized Rs 1.2 crore and more than three dozen bank accounts having deposits of more than Rs. three crore suspected to be terror funds of NSCN(IM) have been identified.
Investigation has revealed that Masasosang Ao is a close associate of main accused Alemla Jamir and is actively involved in transfer and mobilisation of terror funds for NSCN (IM), the probe agency said. (UNI)
