New Delhi, Feb 7 : The Supreme Court will consider, on Monday names for the next Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in place of R S Cheema who has resigned to pursue the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases in connection with the coal block allocation scam cases.
"We will consider on February 10, Monday, as to who can be the next SPP in the coal block allocation scam cases," Chief Justice S A Bobde, who heads the three-judge bench of the apex court, said on Friday. Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, suggested certain names, including that of Maninder Singh, former Additional Solicitor General (ASG) and a senior Supreme Court lawyer.
After hearing the submissions of names by SG, the Supreme Court said, "we want a lawyer who is regular to trial courts." Cheema resigned from the SPP post last month in the coal block allocation scam cases being heard by the Patiala House Court. (UNI)
