New Delhi, Feb 6 : BJP lawmaker Mahesh Poddar on Thursday urged the Government to step up publicity campaigns against the deadly disease Cancer as it has emerged as the second largest cause of death in the country. He also urged the Government to set up more Cancer Institutes in the country so that more patients get treatment at the earliest.
Referring to the latest World Health Organisation (WHO) report which said that one among ten persons will be affected by cancer and out of every 15 persons, one will die of it, Mr Poddar told the Rajya Sabha that the states should also be kept in the loop in this awareness campaign and more detection and treatment centres set up in the states.
Another BJP lawmaker Vinay Sahasrabuddhe asked the Government to improve the design of the ramps for the disabled or 'Divyaang' and also the approach of the Government officials towards them. He also demanded that the vacancies for the disabled be filled quickly.
BJP Member Sanjay Seth demanded setting up of more training centres for police personnel in the country. He also said over five lakh posts of police personnel is vacant and in Uttar Pradesh alone, the figure stands at one lakh. (UNI)
