New Delhi, Feb 6 : The Election Commission on Thursday issued show cause notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party was sponsoring the anti-CAA protests in Shaheen Bagh and feeding biriyani to protesters.
The Commission stated that Mr Adityanath violated Model code of conduct by “criticising other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion”. The poll body has acted upon the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s remarks at an election campaign rally for BJP candidates on February 1 at Karawal Nagar, where he had alleged that “Kejriwal and company is spreading anarchy in Delhi by doing acts like Shaheen Bagh, they are sponsoring Shaheen and feeding biryani to people there”.
He had also made remarks that a Pakistan Minister had appealed in favour of Mr Kejriwal. “The Commission is prima facie, of the view that by the statement, you have violated the MCC” the Commission said and asked Mr Adityanath to explain his position over the statement on or before 1700 hrs on February 7. With the end of the campaigning this evening, the Delhi assembly will go to polls on February 8 and the results will be announced on February 11. (UNI)
