New Delhi, Feb 5: With just three days ahead of the Assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held on February 8, the Delhi Bar Association on Wednesday extended their support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and said they stand together, cutting across political affiliations, for the cause of Delhi lawyers. ''Over the years, police atrocities on lawyers have increased considerably, which is a matter of great concern.
Regarding the incident between lawyers and Police at Tis Hazari courts, the general message among the lawyers is that the Controlling Authority stood with Police and not the lawyers,'' the coordination committee of All District Court Bar Associations of Delhi said in a statement here.
''Regarding the welfare schemes, unexpected forces against the Delhi government came in the way of implementation of scheme announced by the Delhi government for lawyers, pursuant to the budgetary provision of recurring Rs 50 crore, which caused delay. ''The Delhi government, in a Cabinet decision, has already approved schemes for Rs five lakh medical claim and Rs 10 lakh life insurance. We appreciate support by Arvind Kejriwal for the welfare schemes and electricity dues, and assurance to further increase the welfare fund,'' it added.
''It is time to whole-heartedly support Mr Kejriwal, which we appeal to all,'' said the statement. Polling in 70 Assembly seats of Delhi will be held on February 8, while counting will take place on February 11. (UNI)
