New Delhi, Feb 4: BJP's old ally Shiv Sena on Monday said it will oppose the NRC and stressed that the government should focus on real issues like rising unemployment and soaring prices instead of NRC.
'Are all real problems like unemployment, price rise and violence, solved that you are talking about NRC and NPR,' said Shiv Sena member Vinayak Raut during debate on President's address to Joint sitting of Parliament. He said the Shiv Sena has supported the government when Citizenship Amendment Bill was brought in Parliament but the party wanted to know the data. 'How many immigrants have come to India and in which states have they settled,' he said and asked how many immigrants have been given Aadhaar. He said the country is being misled through NRC.
'If NRC takes place, 35 crore people will have to be kept under detention camps. Act on real issues,' he said. Mr Raut lashed out at BJP for making announcements and not implementing those schemes. 'Making announcements is not enough. Make less announcements and do implementation of schemes more,' he said. He said the SS supported the government for abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A, but wanted to know 'How many people have been successful in their businesses in Kashmir after their nullification.' He also said that his party supported the GST, but now non-BJP ruled states were not getting their share as promised. (UNI)
