SC begins hearing on Sabarimala

The Supreme Court’s nine-judge bench on Monday began hearing the Sabarimala Temple issue and other related cases including the entry of women into the temple.

The top court will frame issues for deliberation regarding discrimination against women in various religions and at religious places, including the Lord Ayyappa temple in Kerala.

The issues being considered are entry of Muslim women into mosques, female genital mutilation in the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community and barring of Parsi women, married to non-Parsi men, in the holy fire place at an agiary.

Besides Chief Justice SA Bobde, other judges on the nine judge bench are Justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan, L Nageswara Rao, MM Shatanagoudar, SA Nazeer, R Subhash Reddy, BR Gavai and Surya Kant.
