New Delhi, Feb 3: The Rajya Sabha was on Monday rocked by opposition protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register for Citizens (NRC) , forcing two adjournments of the house, the second one till 2pm.
As soon as the house met at 12 noon after the first adjournment, members of the opposition were up on their seats, demanding a discussion on the countrywide protests against the CAA and the NRC. Deputy chairman Harivansh said that the chairman has rejected the opposition notices for discussion of the issue under rule 267 and the issue will not be allowed to be raised .
Leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Navi Azad sought to speak on the issue but was disallowed by the chair, who sought to proceed with the question hour. However, members of the opposition were in the well , protesting over the issue. With the uproar continuing, the chair adjourned the house till 2pm. Earlier today, the house had been adjourned during the zero hour after opposition uproar in the house. (UNI)
