New Delhi, Feb 3: Charging the BJP leader of insulting the freedom fighters, including Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the Congress on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify his position on the objectionable remarks by BJP leader Ananthkumar Hegde against Mahatma Gandhi.
Addressing a press conference here, AICC senior spokesperson Anand Sharma said, ‘we are concerned about the recent statement by BJP leaders about the freedom fighters and the freedom movement. If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA are serious about the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, he should come to Parliament and clarify his position on the remarks by BJP leader Ananthkumar Hegde against the Father of the Nation.’’
Charging the BJP leader of making provocative statements just with an eye on the Delhi elections, Mr. Sharma said, ‘they are desperate to get some votes in the elections. Only to get some votes, they are inflicting deep wounds on the soul of the Nation.' He also expressed concern over the opposition not being allowed to speak on the notice over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the NRC and said that the Congress will continue to raise their demand to hold discussion on the issue, which has led to countrywide protests across the country over the past more than a month.
