Hindu Mahasabha leader’s murder: 4 policemen suspended

Lucknow, Feb 2 : Four policemen, including SHO of Parivartan Chowk police outpost Sandeep Tiwari, were suspended over the gruesome murder of Hindutva leader Ranjit Bachchan here in the state capital on Sunday.

Police have made six teams to nab the culprits but they are yet to get any clue so far. Ranjit Bachchan, the leader of political organisation called Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha, was shot dead in the Hazratganj area of the Uttar Pradesh capital. Bachchan, international president of the outfit, was shot dead at 0700 hrs when he was out for a morning walk along with his brother Ashish, police said. Police said that two criminals came on a motorcycle and fired on Bachchan and Ashish. While Bachchan died on the spot, Ashish was wounded. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits.

Bachchan had completed his 40 years on Saturday, when a programme was held at a government housing complex, where he called upon the Hindus to unite for Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC). The leader, a native of Gorakhpur, was a social worker, and a cyclist and had visited several countries. He was associated with Samajwadi Party in the past. His wife Kalandi Sharma is a BJP leader.

She alleged that minority community people have killed her husband. She also alleged that her husband had demanded security but the Yogi Adityanath government refused, leading to this incident. Hindu Mahasabha national president Chakrapani alleged that it is the handiwork of the minority community people and demanded that government should announce compensation for the deceased's family. This was the second time a right-wing leader was killed in the state capital in recent months. Hindhu Samaj Party chief Kamlesh Tiwari was gunned down in October, 2019.(UNI)
