New Delhi, Feb 2 : Emphasising that everybody will have to work together to give momentum to the economy, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said the government is playing the role of a facilitator and infrastructure builder through the budget.
A day after presenting the budget for 2020- 21, Ms Sitharaman told reporters here that the government, private sector, foreign investment, business or MSME cannot boost the economy in isolation, the work has to be done together.
'Everyone will have to work together for this. The government is playing the role of a facilitator and infrastructure builder for this through the budget,' she said. Responding to a question from UNI, Ms Sitharaman said interest of senior citizens have been taken care of in the Budget. In India, the elderly population is estimated to reach 30 crore by 2050. 'I have already made allocation for senior citizens.... We have clearly said that senior citizens savings will be given a higher interest rate.
So their interest are taken care of,' she said. She said the government has realized its responsibility and has paved the way for accelerating the economy through the budget. Ms Sitharaman said she did not go for sectoral approach while the making of budget because 'we were looking for economy and how are we going to improve it'.
She said that emphasis has been laid on building wealth through the creation of infrastructure. Infrastructure construction will not only increase employment and other activities in that area, but will also give impetus to many industries, the minister added. (UNI)
