Taranjit Singh Sandhu to be new Ambassador to US

New Delhi, Jan 28: India's incumbent envoy to Sri Lanka, Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United States.

Mr Sandhu is IFS officer of 1988 batch. Mr Sandhu has earlier served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy of India in Washington DC from July 2013 to January 2017. He served as Consul General of India in Frankfurt from September 2011 to July 2013. He also served in the Ministry of External Affairs from March 2009 to August 2011, as Joint Secretary (United Nations) and later as Joint Secretary (Administration) heading the Human Resource Division, official sources said.

Mr Sandhu was at the Permanent Mission of India to United Nations, New York from July 2005 to February 2009 and also served as the First Secretary (Political) at Embassy of India, Washington, responsible for liaison with the United States Congress between 1997 and 2000. (UNI)
