New Delhi, Jan 27 : The BJP on Monday defended the government decision to honour singer Adnan Sami with Padma Shri and said the opposition to such a move from Congress, AAP and a section of 'liberals' showed that these sections only approve those Muslims who can abuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian army.
"Jo desh droh ke kaam karey, Yasin Malik, Afzal Guru, Burhan Wani ke liye ikrar..... (Those who work against India, Yasin Malik, Afzal Guru and Burhan Wani have approval from these sections. But not others," BJP spokesman Sambit Patra told reporters here. The Congress has criticised the Modi government to honour Sami, who was born to the family of a Pakistani Air force veteran. Mr Patra said in 2008, a book by Sami's father was released by former PM Inder Kumar Gujral and the function was attended among others by Congress veteran and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
In this context, Patra said Congress seems to approve the idea of felicitating Sami, but when BJP confers award to the same individual, the principal opposition party has problems. (UNI)
