Guwahati, Jan 26: Four low-intensity blasts hit parts of eastern Assam on early Sunday morning as the nation celebrated its 71st Republic Day.
While three blasts were reported from Dibrugarh district, one has been reported from Charaideo district. No person was injured in any of the blast. Police and paramilitary forces have rushed to the spots to ascertain the extent of damage and nature of explosives used. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, condemning the blasts, said the culprits will be identified and brought to book.
The involvement of the banned ULFA (I) is suspected behind the blasts as the outfit had called for a boycott of the Republic Day celebration and also a general strike from 12 midnight to 1800 hours today. UNI
