New Delhi, Jan 25 : One of the death row convicts, in the Nirbhaya gang rapemurder case, Mukesh Kumar Singh, on Saturday, moved the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of his mercy petition by the President of India.
Mukesh, Akshay Kumar Singh, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Pawan Kumar Gupta were ordered to be hanged on February 1, Saturday, by a Patiala House court for their involvement in the brutal December 16, 2012, gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya. Vrinda Grover, lawyer for Mukesh, said that she has filed the plea before Apex Court seeking that his capital punishment be commuted to life imprisonment.
"I have challenged the President's rejection of mercy petition before Apex Court," Ms Grover said. The Supreme Court had also dismissed the review and curative petitions of Mukesh, forcing him to file the mercy petition before the President of India, who had also rejected it. (UNI)
