The Congress president, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, on Tuesday dissolved the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and all district committees in the state with immediate effect, though its state unit president,Mr. Sunil Jakhar, will remain unchanged.
The party released a statement in this regard, a day after the state Chief Minister,captain Amarinder Singh, met Mrs. Gandhi in New Delhi and held detailed discussions. Mrs. Gandhi also formed an 11-member panel for better coordination between the government and the party in Punjab.
The AICC in-charge, Punjab, Ms. Asha Kumari will head the panel. The members include Capt Amarinder Singh, the PCC chief,Mr. Sunil Jakhar, the AICC general secretary,Ms. Ambika Soni, ministers Mr. CS Channi, Mr. SS Arora and Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, Punjab general secretary, Mr. Sandeep Sandhu, and MLAs Mr. Kuljit Nagra and Mr. Gurkirat Kotli.
The Congress president has dissolved “executive committee of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and District Congress Committees (DCCs) of Punjab with immediate effect. The president of Punjab PCC shall remain unchanged,' the statement said.
