Political strategist,Mr. Prashant Kishor, on Wednesday dared the Union Home Minister,Mr. Amit Shah, to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Taking to Twitter, the Janata Dal (United) vice president urged that 'being dismissive of citizens’ dissent couldn’t be the sign of the strength of any government'.
'Being dismissive of citizens’ dissent couldn’t be the sign of the strength of any Govt. @amitshah Ji if you don’t care for those protesting against #CAA_NRC, why don’t you go ahead and try implementing the CAA & NRC in the chronology that you so audaciously announced to the nation!' Kishor said.
Mr. Kishor, who has been critical of the CAA had, on January 12, declared that CAA-NRC won't be implemented in Bihar. 'I join my voice with all to thank Congress leadership for their formal and unequivocal rejection of #CAA_NRC,' he had said.
Interestingly, Mr. Kishor's party JD(U) had supported the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha. Mr. Kishor had, however, said that only Mr. Nitish Kumar could explain under what circumstances his party supported the Act.
His comments come a day after Mr. Amit Shah reiterated that CAA won't be rolled back. 'I want to say that irrespective of the protests it will not be withdrawn... Whoever has to oppose can oppose the Act, it is not going to be revoked... If any clause of the CAA takes away the citizenship of anyone, including Muslims, they can tell me. The agitations and sit-ins, which are being organised in the country against it, are wrong,' he said during a rally in Lucknow.
Meanwhile, a constitution bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde, began hearing a bunch of petitions challenging CAA on Wednesday.
