Senior advocate Indira Jaising sparked a row asking Nirbhaya's mother to pardon the four convicts on death row who were convicted for the 2012 gang rape of her daughter.
Quoting the example of Sonia Gandhi who forgave Nalini, the convict of Rajiv Gandhi assassination, Indira Jaising urged Asha Devi, Nirbhaya’s mother, to forgive all four rape convicts.
Taking Twitter, Indira Jaising said: "While I fully identify with the pain of Asha Devi I urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who forgave Nalini and said she didn't not want the death penalty for her. We are with you but against the death penalty."
Indira Jaising’s request came soon after Asha Devi on Friday expressed her disappointment when a Delhi court postponed the date of the execution of the four convicts, which raised many eyebrows.
