New Delhi, Jan 16 : The mercy plea of Mukesh Singh, one of the convicts in the Nirbhaya case , has been received by the Home Ministry from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal 's office on Thursday and is likely to be sent to the President soon.
The final decision with respect to the mercy petition is in the hands of the President, the sources said here. The Delhi Government had on Wednesday recommended the rejection of the mercy plea and had further sent the same to the office of the Lieutenant Governor. Singh's lawyer had filed the mercy plea on Tuesday after the Supreme Court dismissed the curative petition filed by the Nirbhaya convict.
The mercy petition was rejected within a day of being received by the Delhi Government. (UNI)
