An ABVP-affiliated student, Komal Sharma, allegedly involved in the masked attack in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has the National Commission for Women (NCW) seeking justice. “I am being wrongly blamed,” says Komal Sharma.

Delhi Police was in search of Komal Sharma, a student of Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College, after her name was revealed by India Today TV in a sting operation called #JNUTapes. Soon after the revelation, Komal Sharma has gone underground. But in a surprise move, She has appeared on Wednesday before the NCW claiming she is innocent.

“I am not the woman in the video. I am being framed. I have been deliberately, and with some bad intention, defamed to the extent that now the condition has become bad to worst and I have started receiving calls from my relatives/friends who are expressing their dismay considering me as the said alleged lady in mask/scarf,” she said.

Based on Sharma's complaint, the NCW has asked Delhi's police chief, Amulya Patnaik, to give it a status report within seven days.

A masked mob that Komal Sharma is said to have been a part of ran amok inside the JNU campus last Sunday, leaving several people injured and sparking angry protests on campuses across India. The RSS student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) continues to deny it was involved and blames the Left.
