New Delhi, Jan 15 : Rubbishing Congress leader Digvijaya Singh's statements on radical Islamic preacher Zakir Naik , BJP on Wednesday said the principal opposition was making wild accusations against the elected Prime Minister of the country on the instructions of the party leadership.
''Digvijaya Singh has been making wild statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah on the instructions of party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,'' BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told a TV channel. Mr Singh has attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, saying Islam campaigner Zakir Naik has alleged that a messenger was sent to him asking for support regarding abrogation of Article 370.
Bhatia said Digvijay Singh lacks credibility and was making wild allegations against elected Prime Minister of the country who has impeccable integrity and was working hard for the country. He alleged that Naik was patronised by the Congress and Congress' love and affection for Naik was well known, adding that the grand old party has taken huge contributions from Naik.
Congress was trying to come out with concocted story, Mr Bhatia said. Mr Singh has sought clarification from PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on claims made by Zakir Naik regarding Centre’s offer to him of safe passage in return for support to government’s move on Article 370. Naik has alleged that the messenger said if he supports the government's move, all treason cases against him will be dropped.
On this, Digvijay Singh had asked why the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were not responding to these allegations. Naik, a 53-year-old radical television preacher, left India in 2016 and subsequently moved to Malaysia. He is wanted by the Indian authorities since 2016 for alleged money laundering and inciting extremism through hate speeches. (UNI)
