New Delhi, Jan 12 : In view of the demise of the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, the government on Sunday announced a one-day state mourning on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, there will be one day's state mourning on January 13 throughout the nation. "His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman has passed away on January 10.
As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, Government of India has decided that there will be one day's State Mourning on January 13, 2020 throughout India," said spokesperson of the Home Ministry. "The National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on the day of Mourning and there will be no official entertainment on the day," the spokesperson added.
Born on November 18, 1940, the Sultan died on January 10, 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the passing away of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said.
"I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said.
He was a visionary leader and statesman who transformed Oman into a modern and prosperous nation. He was a beacon of peace for our region and the world," Prime Minister tweeted. (UNI)
