Crime against women must be dealt jointly by us: Naidu

New Delhi, Dec 2: Expressing deep anguish over the brutal rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad, the Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaih Nadu on Monday said that we all need to work together to find out ways to prevent such incidents in the country, rising above from the party’s politics.

Speaking after the discussion on this issue in the Upper House, Mr Naidu further said issues related to the women safety and crimes against them are in front of all members and we all need to address these issues. “This is not an issue of a particular State but this is disease of an entire society. There are some lacunae in policing and other systems and there is a need of setting up of more and more fast track courts but we all have to find out solutions and corrective measures to prevent such issues together”, Mr. Naidu said.

The Chairman also said that political will is needed in such preventive steps. The message to protect the modesty of women must be publicised through various social media and all political parties should spread awareness about the respect of a women, only then such incidents can be avoided.

There should be a social stigma on the accused of such crimes and sale of liquor and other intoxicants on the highways must be banned, the Chairman suggested. (UNI)
