New Delhi, Nov 29 : National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested an absconding Maoist Sumitra alias Sumitra Punem, in connection with an attack on a convoy of Congress leaders in Darbha valley in Chattisgarh in 2013.
Sumitra is Puspal LOS Dalam Commander of the banned CPI (Maoists) and was a team member of Darbha Division Committee formation in Chhattisgarh that executed the attack. She was a chargesheeted absconding accused in this case under sections of 147,148,149,307, 302, 341,427&120B of IPC, Sec.25,27 of Arms Act, Sec.3,4,5 of Explosive Substance Act, Sec. 38(2),39(2) of UA(P) Act, the central terror probe agency said.
Maoists attacked the convoy of Congress leaders on May 25, 2013 in the hilly areas of Darbha valley in Chattisgharh. After investigation, NIA had filed the chargesheet on September 25, 2014 and a supplementary chargesheet filed on September 28 this year against 39 accused persons. Out of the 39 charge-sheeted accused persons, 10 were arrested, two were killed in encounters with security forces and 27 were absconding.
Arrested accused Sumitra was one of the 27 absconding Maoists. NIA has announced rewards on the absconding accused persons and efforts are on to apprehend them. Further investigation is continuing in the case, the probe agency said in a statement here. (UNI)
