New Delhi, Nov 26: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday advised the Government to refrain from sending every bill to the standing committee.
The Industrial Relations Code, 2019 was to be introduced in the House today. As Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar stood up to introduce the Bill, Opposition members objected, saying the members had not been provided with a copy of the Bill. They also demanded that this was a significant Bill and hence should be sent to the standing committee of Parliament.
Mr. Birla directed the minister to introduce the Bill on Wednesday. He said, "Minister, in view of the objections of the Opposition, you should introduce this Bill tomorrow." Mr. Gangwar admitted that this was an important Bill and therefore he agreed to send it to the standing committee.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi also said the government was ready to send the Bill to the standing committee. To this, the Chairman said, 'I have given the system. The bill will be introduced two days later. Do not cast the tradition of sending every Bill to the standing committee.' He said the Bill will be discussed tomorrow and the opinion of its house will be the same. (UNI)
