Ahmedabad, Nov 25: Congress on Monday staged a protest outside the University Granthnirman Board for publishing a book 'Gujarat ni Rajkiya Gatha' which "blames the Congress for the Godhra incident".
Women's wing, NSUI and Youth Congress, besides the city wing of the party, assembled in front of the office of the board near Gujarat college in Ellisbridge area and raised slogans against the Chairman of the board Bhavnaben Dave, who along with Parikshit Joshi has edited the chronological book.
Police detained several of them. Dave said that the protests were uncalled for as the book was based on facts which were published in several newspapers of that time. A Congress leader said the party would intensify its protests in Gandhian way if the book was not recalled by the board in 48 hours.
Notably, the coach S6 of Sabarmati Express was burnt near Godhara railway station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002, killing over 50 passengers, mostly pilgrims, returning from Ayodhya. Subsequently, riots broke out in the state. The book has reportedly alleged that some of the elected representatives of Congress party were also ''responsible for the conspiracy of the Godhara incident''. The book allegedly also points fingers toward Congress for the ''delay in Narmada project''. (UNI)
