Tharoor’s ‘Snollygoster’ barb at Ajit Pawar

Shashi Tharoor famous for his repertoire of English words has done it again by calling Ajit Pawar of the NCP a ‘Snollygoster’. Twitter is abuzz as fans rush to check the word’s meaning. It refers to a shrewd, unprincipled person, especially a politician.

The word was famously used by President Truman when he lamented that Dwight Eisenhower had given in to congressional snollygosters meaning unprincipled politicians.

The word is a noun and part of US dialect. Shashi Tharoor has proved that whatever the situation, political or otherwise, he has a term for it ready at hand. He never misses an opportunity to surprise and comment.
