New Delhi, Nov 24: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday said the Governor’s role is very important in ensuring better coordination between the Centre and state.
Addressing the concluding session of 50th Governors and Lt Governors conference here at Rashtrapati Bhawan here, he said Governor is the most important link in our federal system.
He also made suggestions to Governors to make their respective Raj Bhavans more interactive and accessible to ordinary people and representatives of different organs of the state.
While referring to gubernatorial post as having the colonial legacy of inaccessibility with common people, the President urged Governors to make conscious efforts to connect with people and dispel any such perception of Raj Bhavan being beyond the reach of the people.
He said November 26 this year was the 70th anniversary of the Constitution. “On that day a campaign will be launched to create awareness about fundamental duties among the citizens and I hope that all Raj Bhavans will celebrate the Constitution Day in an effective manner,'' Kovind said.
Five groups of Governors submitted their reports on issues, deliberated on them and identified actionable points in which governors could play a facilitating role.
