New Delhi , Nov 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said it is his government's target to make evidence-based policy an integral and inalienable part of the governance process by 2022 which will help create a new identity of the ``New India.'

He said that this was also the right phase of transformation for the audit sector and the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) will have to move towards becoming CAG 2.0.

At the Accountant General and Deputy Accountant Generals conclave here, Modi stressed on the fact that the CAG must work in totality and in a holistic manner rather than thinking in fragments.

He said that an institution like CAG cannot be limited to the figures and procedures but will have to come up as a catalyst in the good governance.

The Prime Minister said that CAG played a role in the system that is developing in the country with reference to the time bound delivery of the government projects.

Keeping the economic conduct of the country sacred is also a responsibility of the CAG and it was one of the reasons of high expectations from an institution like the CAG, he told the gathering.

The conclave which has its theme ``Transforming Audit and Assurance in a Digital World' is taking place in view of consolidating experience and learning and further develop the path of Indian Audit and Accounts Department in coming years. (UNI)
