Senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday has warned Congress over joining with Shiv Sena saying this alliance will bury Congress in Maharashtra.
Expressing his displeasure over the alliance with Shivsena, he added that it will be a big mistake. On Wednesday, Congress high command has decided to go ahead with NCP and Shiv Sena to form a government in Maharashtra to keep BJP, the larger enemy, at bay. Former Chief Minister and Maharashtra Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan had expressed confident of making a stable government in Maharashtra.
Senior Congress leaders Ahmed Patel and Mallikarjun Kharge were part of the discussions held at NCP chief Sharad Pawar's residence in New Delhi. "Years ago, the Congress party had made a mistake by joining hands with the BSP. The party was beaten so badly, that it has yet not risen. We are making the same mistake in Maharashtra. Being the third party in the Shiv Sena-led government is like burying the party. It would be better if the party president does not fall in pressure".
