New Delhi, Nov 21: Continuing its attack on the Government on the electoral bonds scheme, the Congress on Thursday demanded an enquiry by a Joint Parliamentary Committee into the Electoral bonds scheme and said that it will continue to strive for a detailed discussion on the issue in both the Houses of Parliament.
At a press conference here, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari said, ’’The scheme of electoral bonds is a fundamental threat to democracy. We demand that a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe be instituted into the entire scheme of electoral bonds.
We also demand that a detailed discussion be held on the issue in both the houses of Parliament.’’
Describing electoral bonds as a ‘fundamental threat to democracy’, Tewari said, "Electoral bonds create an unlevel playing field . We demanded in the Lok Sabha today that there should be a full fledged discussion on the entire gamut of political financing.’’
‘’We will continue to raise the issue in Parliament and seek a detailed discussion on the issue,’’he said.
He also urged the Supreme Court to deal with the matter expeditiously. (UNI)
