Hitting back at Bengal CM Mamata for calling him ‘minority extremist’, AIMIM leader Asasudin Owaisi said that Mamata making such comments due to fear and frustration.
Taking to Twitter, Owaisi said: “It’s not religious extremism to say that Bengal’s Muslims have one of the worst human development indicators of any minority. If Didi is worried about a bunch of us “from Hyderabad” then she should tell us how BJP won 18/42 LS seats from Bengal”.
New Agency ANI quoted Mamata as saying: “By making allegations against me you (Mamata) are giving the message to Muslims of Bengal that Owaisi's party has become a formidable force in the state. Mamata Banerjee is showcasing her fear and frustration by making such comments.”
Political analysts point out that West Bengal Chief Minister’s statement assumes significance as part of Mamata Banerjee’s attempt to woo the Hindu vote bank to counter the BJP’s rise in the state. West Bengal is going for Assembly elections in 2021. Moreover, Owaisi’s party, the AIMIM, is gradually making inroads in West Bengal. His party made a shocking win in the recently held Assembly by-election winning Kishanganj assembly by his candidate Qamrul Hoda defeating BJP’s Sweety Singh by a margin of over 10,000 votes.
